Bovine Serum Albumin - The Allround Talent

Bovine serum albumin, also known as “BSA“ or “Fraction V“, is a protein derived from bovine blood serum. The original name "fraction V" is based on the plasma protein extraction by Cohn fractionation, which makes use of the different solubility behavior of the plasma proteins and is based on cold ethanol precipitation. BSA represents the fifth fraction.

BSA has numerous biochemical applications including immunological detection methods such as ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay), Western Blot, ELISpot and in immunohistochemistry. In many immunoassays, non-specific protein-binding surfaces are saturated by this. Furthermore, BSA is used as a stabilizer or as a supplement to support cell growth in cell culture.

Capricorn Scientific is a German manufacturer of cell culture products. Our BSA products are directed to highest purity and best suitability for cell culture applications. The different variants are well-suited for the production of blocking agents, as a control for in vitro diagnostic immunoassays and as growth supplements in cell culture media for the biopharmaceutical and vaccine industries.
